November 2020 Prayer Letter
Showers of Blessings
It was happening. Again. Something somewhere between the sound of a thousand hooves of stampeding cattle and the noise of a Boeing-757 landing on the auditorium roof sliced through the room. Pensacola rain. For those who have lived it, no other explanation is needed. For those who have avoided this delightful phenomenon, getting stuck in the torrential downpour of Pensacola’s rain, in my estimation, is like sitting in the first row of Shamu’s splash zone. There is no doubt you will get drenched. While the word blessing may not exactly have been my estimation of these showers at the time, as I sit here tonight typing this letter to you and thinking about this past month, the words of Ezekiel 34 keep cycling through my mind, “showers of blessing.” Over and over again, God has been showering us with blessings in the days leading up to our departure for Peru.
One thing on deputation that we often do not get to witness is the outcome. We may pass out flyers for a VBS at one church one week and then invite people for a special revival at another church the next week, but we often don’t get to know, this side of Heaven that is, what comes of these times of ministry. Well, this past week, we were showered with the extra blessing of getting a glimpse of the outcome. Several months ago, I had been out on visitation with a man from the church when we met a middle-aged Jewish man.
He invited us into his house, and for the next several hours we went through the Bible and the plan of salvation. As I closed the door to his house, knowing that he had not made a decision to trust Christ as his Saviour that day, I often thought about him and prayed for him in the months to follow, but I never knew what happened until last week. When I was traveling back through the area, the church let me know that on the very next visit to his house, he accepted Christ into his heart. What a praise that another soul has come to know the Lord, and what an extra little blessing to us to get to know the outcome.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers for my ordination service. I had the privilege of being ordained to the gospel ministry by my sending church, Vision Baptist Church, on November 5. Truly, I can’t quite pen the words to describe what a blessing this service was to me and my family. All I can really say is what a God we serve! We are so blessed! Showers of blessings indeed.
