December 2020 Prayer Letter

The Final Chapter

The end. My eyes dance over these final words as I close the cover of the book and sink back into the abyss of pillows on my mother-in-law’s couch. There is something very satisfactory about finishing a good book, and yet, there is also a plethora of other emotions that always follow when I reach the final chapter, emotions that range from sadness that such a great book has come to an end, longing for the next new book, and, of course, curiosity if indeed the new book will be up to par of the last. While perhaps a silly parallel, it was the only way my jumbled brain could seek to explain the mixture of sadness as we say goodbye to family, as well as longing for a people that we know God has called us to serve, and the curiosity of how God will work all the pieces together, all of which constitutes this December, our final chapter in this book of deputation.
No book on deputation would be complete without a host of stories of God’s provision and protection. While this is hardly a book, I would like to close this final chapter of deputation prayer letters with another story of God’s protection. This past Tuesday, Jacqulyn and the boys were traveling back from the grocery store. While waiting for the red light to turn, a drunk driver ran into them, pushing our van over twenty feet toward the intersection. Another three feet and they would have been pushed into oncoming traffic. Please know how much we appreciate your prayers for safety. I know my God protected my family that night. They are all a bit sore, but otherwise doing great, and what a praise that is!
As many of you may know, each December Vision Baptist Missions puts on a yearly conference known as the Our Generation Summit. The goal of this conference is to encourage young people to seek God’s will for their lives and to challenge them with the need of the world for the Gospel. This year, my wife and I have the privilege of sponsoring a young man and a young couple we met on deputation, all who have expressed a burden for world missions. I don’t know what God has for their lives, but I am praying that while this Summit Conference may be in the final chapter of our deputation story, it will also be the introduction chapter in someone else’s life.
