APRIL 2021 Prayer Letter
Poco a Poco
When I was about five, my parents created the following family rule: if another person cannot escape your presence, you must stop singing. Now this might sound a tad harsh, but it is completely possible that I learned just one line of a Patch the Pirate song during an eight-hour car ride. And, yes, those six words, “little by little, inch by inch,” were most definitely repeated in a shockingly loud, off-key voice for the majority of that ride. The rule was created just after this drive, but for months, “little by little” was stuck in all of our heads. Now, all these years later, as we try our hardest to build relationships and learn a new language and culture, “little by little,” or as we now say, “poco a poco,” is once again our phrase.
Little by little, we have definitely seen some exciting progress in our language learning. Having officially finished book one of five in our language school, both my wife and I have been privileged to start giving ten-minute devotionals in Spanish. My wife was able to share her first devotional with the ladies Sunday school class just this past week, and I have been able to share several devotionals with a group of young men. While we know we still have a long way to go, step by step, it will be accomplished, and we are so excited to see how far the Lord has already brought us.
As I scan the faces of the young men piled in my living room, the sheer volume of work that needs to be done settles in. So many souls. All with an eternal destination. Right now, we have about twenty-five young men that we are working with. These are the same young men that we met at the football fields during quarantine. Little by little this past month, we have been building relationships and continuing to witness to them. Since our last letter, another young man, Bryan, has also made a profession of faith!
Praise the Lord! All of the young men have now heard a clear presentation of the gospel several times, and while several more since Leo and Bryan have shown interest, I would ask you that you pray with us that the rest of these young men would take the next step and accept Christ as their personal Saviour.
