MAY 2021 Prayer Letter

Up Next

“Up next to the plate, standing at four feet ten, and weighing in right at a hundred pounds is eleven-year-old Mitchell McCormack!” Whatever the announcer said next was silenced by the erratic pounding of my heart. I was a ball of nerves and excitement. With all that is happening in Peru right now, the excitement churns inside of me, reminding me of that day at the ball field, and those words, “up next,” once again ring in my ears.

Two months ago, I met a young man named Fernando at the basketball courts. After that day, we began talking and building a friendship. After numerous invitations, Fernando finally agreed to come to a youth event and then to my house for a Bible study and then at last, to church. Well, last Sunday, Fernando accepted Jesus Christ into his heart! Thank you so much for praying with us for this young man’s salvation. One of the Peruvian Pastors and I began discipleship with him this week, and I would just ask you to pray for Fernando as he takes the next steps in his relationship with the Lord.

This past month was very encouraging to see what God is doing in Amor Baptist Church, one of the two churches we have been helping at during our time in language school. Amor is a new church plant and has been running around thirty people for the past several months. In April, however, Amor had their first family campaign. After canvasing the community once again and praying specifically for more families and men to visit, over fifty people showed up for the three days of services! Three of the young people who attended also accepted Christ as their Saviour! God is using Amor Baptist Church in big ways, and I am so excited to announce what is up next for this church. As of this month, we are officially beginning the giving campaign to find a permanent home for Amor! Please be praying with us as we seek to raise the $35,000 needed to buy the land for Amor Baptist Church.

Up next in the coming months, we have some very exciting ministry opportunities. One request that I would ask you to pray for specifically is the Medical Mission’s Outreach Campaign which will be held the second week of June. During this campaign, we have the unique opportunity to reach into the community in a very physical way and see thousands of patients. The truly exciting part though is that each one of these patients will also be presented with the true message of hope, the Gospel. Because I know our God can use this campaign to change countless lives, I would ask that you pray with us in two specific ways. First, please be praying that God would begin working in the hearts of the patients we will see. Second, please be praying for safety during this campaign.

The presidential elections here in Peru are set to be held the day before the medical campaign begins. Since tensions are already high with the two candidates Peru has been left with, please be praying specifically that riots do not break out in Arequipa the week following the elections.
We are beyond blessed to be serving here in Peru, and we cannot wait to see what our God will do next.

Your Missionaries to Peru,
Mitch, Jacqulyn, Landon, and Ryan McCormack
