JUly 2021 Prayer Letter

Finding Hope

Despair, fear, pain, curiosity—these were the faces, the faces of each man, woman, and child. The faces of the 933 patients we treated. Each one was searching. Looking for answers. Looking for hope. And many of these dear people, they found it. They found the true hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ.

It’s been a little over three weeks since the medical clinic, and this is the first time that I have really been able to sit down, process all that God did, and actually put coherent thoughts to paper. I would be lying if I said I remember every face. But their stories! Their stories I will remember, stories of people living in daily fear of Covid or in fear of having yet another heart attack because they haven’t been given the medications to prevent it, and stories of cancer diagnoses right as the pandemic hit, with people unable to receive treatment because the oncologist offices have remained closed through the pandemic.

I watched the tears run down a mother’s face as she learned for the first time that her daughter had been suffering unimaginable abuse for two years. These are their stories. If medicine was the only hope we were offering, it would have been far from sufficient, but that was not the only hope these people were shown that day. They were shown a far, far greater one.

From June 7-10, 2021, Omega Baptist Church in Arequipa, Peru, hosted a free medical clinic in partnership with Medical Missions Outreach. With the help of thirty American nurses, students, doctors, and laymen from churches across the states, we were able to see and treat just under a thousand patients in these four days. From optical to general medicine, we were truly blessed to be able to bring this opportunity to our community. However, the greatest hope that we were able to share with these people was the hope of the Gospel. Each and every one of these patients who came through our clinic had the opportunity to sit down and hear in their own language a clear presentation of the amazing love that our Saviour has for each individual! After talking with the councilors for an hour, and in some cases two to three hours, one hundred and eighteen of these men, women, and children accepted Christ as their personal Saviour! They had found hope, a truly everlasting hope.

So thank you, to all of the friends, family, and churches who have been praying for this event. God used this clinic in mighty ways, and He still is. We have been able to see many new visitors in church, and as we continue with following up, we are praying we will see many more come to find the true hope.

Praises

  • We are praising the Lord that 118 visitors from the clinic accepted Christ as their Saviour.

Prayer Requests

  • Please be praying with us as we begin the huge task of following up with each of these 933 patients. Many have already begun to faithful attend services, but we would love to see even more come to know Christ.
