Thankful, Grateful, and Blessed

The smell of pumpkin bread finds me upstairs. I think this is the third time this week my wife has made some variation of pumpkin something. I’m not sure yet if she loves pumpkin that much or if she’s simply trying to bring fall into our little house, even though it’s most definitely spring here in Arequipa. Either way, this month has been making me reflect on all the things I have to be grateful for—how thankful I am to God for my family, for the ministry here, and for the blessing of being able to do what we do.

October is one of my absolute favorite months here at El Salvador Baptist Church because it’s our missions month. Seeing a church plant that was started by missionaries faithfully support their own missionaries for a year is truly amazing. And then, watching this church decide to double its faith promise giving is incredible! I am so deeply thankful for how God is working in the lives of the people in our church, and I would ask you to pray for the work to continue moving forward.

You know those times when God answers your prayers in an unexpected, big way just as you begin praying for them? That was my experience last month. Another young man joined us to work in the church! I’m so grateful he’s here, but his arrival put a burden on my heart. I started thinking that with the number of laborers we have now, we should be doing more. So, that night, I prayed about it. The very next day at church, a man approached me about taking over a church that had closed in Ilo, Peru, about three hours away from us. This group has been paying off a 4,000-square-meter property—an unheard-of lot size for Arequipa! There are still many unknowns and much to pray about, but we are incredibly grateful for the possibility. On November 23, I’ll be taking our team of young men to look at the property and learn more about the situation. I would ask that you pray for wisdom and, if this is the next step God has for our team, that He would continue opening doors.

Your Missionaries to Peru,
