The three-page list of school supplies was daunting. Of course, there were the regular culprits: “pencils, scissors, and glue.” But as my eyes continued skimming down the list, “painted beans?” Was I really translating that right? Where does one go to find painted beans? Or are you just supposed to buy regular beans and paint them at home? While the beginning of the new school year looms, this year is different. This year, I have the privilege of being able to teach several days a week at the Bible College, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to further invest in the lives of these young men.
Thank you so much for praying with us for this year’s Youth Camp. It was so exciting to be able to bring twelve of our young people to the camp and to see God at work in their hearts and lives. I would ask you to please be praying for Kiara, a young teenage girl from our church. Although she did not make a profession of faith at the camp, Kiara did agree to begin a Bible Study with my wife. Please be praying with me both for Kiara to get saved and for the many other young people at camp who did make decisions for the Lord to continue seeking Him as they head back to school in the coming weeks.
One of the other young people that we took to camp with us was a young man named Gilbert. Initially from Venezuela, Gilbert and his family came to Peru seeking political asylum, and after a time in Lima, they eventually settled into a house a few blocks away from our church. While out canvassing one day, I met Gilbert, and since that day, it has been so incredible to see him grow in his walk with the Lord. However, at camp, something was different. We sat around the bonfire that last night, smoke dancing above the flames, and Gilbert began to give his testimony. He talked about God’s grace in his own life and the changes that the Holy Spirit had worked in him. But now, now it was time for him to take the next step. As we met over the next several days to talk, Gilbert told me how God had been working in his heart to begin classes in the Bible College to begin preparing for ministry. The very next day, Gilbert quit his job and enrolled in the Bible College. Please be praying with me for Gilbert and for the several other students we now have from our church at the Bible College preparing for full-time ministry, as they hit the books and begin a new school year.
